Silvia Sardone in Pontida: "We don't want Islamic veils. We're fighting against Islamization and for remigration."

While those who followed one another on stage at the Lega Nord rally in Pontida analyzed the most disparate issues dear to the Northern League, Silvia Sardone gained the people's 'favor' and applause by focusing her speech—accompanied by Roberto Vannacci—on her greatest battle: Islam, its doctrine, and immigration.

The challenge against Islamization

The party deputy and MEP spoke of courage in "not backing down on our ideas and moving forward with our heads held high, continuing to advance our battles and our strong positions." For Sardone, the challenge is against "the Islamization of Italy and Europe: we don't want the widespread use of Islamic veils, even on little girls; we don't want the threat of Sharia law; we don't want women forced into arranged marriages and unable to leave the house alone; we don't want schools closed for Ramadan; we don't want to hear the call of the muezzin; we don't want children forced on school trips to mosques or Muslim marches with women locked in fences. We must no longer censor our symbols and renounce our traditions, our identity, our culture."

Remigration

Then he digs into irregular immigration: "We must do more in government on immigration and security, despite the left's and some of its allies' grumblings. The League has already demonstrated its ability to make an impact on these issues. We must have the courage to use words like remigration for the foreign criminals we see on the streets. We must also not be afraid to talk about substitution, the danger of the coming decades if we don't stop landings in Italy. We must fight these battles; the people of Pontida are demanding it."
